A resume, official high school transcripts, and TEAS V test results must be submitted with the application packet. Applicants must also complete college level intermediate algebra and English Composition with a grade C or better. Classes meet from Monday through Friday. Theory classes take place on the school’s campus and cover the fundamentals of nursing, introduction to practical nursing, medical-surgical nursing across lifespan, wellness and health, pharmacology, developmental psychology, human biology with laboratory, maternal and newborn nursing, and introduction to psychology. Students may have to complete a criminal background check for participation in the clinical experience which takes place in various health care settings. Tuition for the program is $11,550 for in-state students and $21,000 for those out-of-state. Stone Academy
Graduates of the Practical Nursing Program at Stone Academy receive an undergraduate certificate which makes them eligible to take the CLEX-PN to work as licensed practical nurses, public school nurses, visiting clinical nurses, or emergency room technicians. The curriculum combines classroom course work with clinical experiences in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and other community medical settings where there are diverse patient populations. Stone Academy offers flexible full-time day programs (13 months 4 semesters) or part-time evening/Saturday program (23 months 6 semesters). Applicants must first attend an informative information session to learn about the process for application and acceptance to the program. Lincoln Technical Institute
The Practical Nursing Curriculum at Lincoln Technical emphasizes hands-on learning through instruction and practice in simulation labs, nursing arts laboratories, and medical wet labs. Certified Nurse Educators and experienced instructors facilitate learning in the classroom and practical sites and ensure students develop specific skills on campus before performing them at clinical sites. Students learn how to make beds, read vital signs, practice infection control, dress wounds, immobilize injured limbs, and administer medications. At the conclusion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit the NCLEX-PN for licensure in Connecticut. Lincoln Tech offers a 12-month full-time program and a 22-month part-time option for working students. Porter and Chester Institute
To encourage interactive lectures, group discussions and personalized instruction, the practical nursing program at Porter and Chester Institute limits class sizes to 20 students. The science-based program trains students in the areas of first aid and medical terminology, medical administrative procedures, fundamentals of human anatomy, human growth and development, and psychology. In the school’s skills lab, the student will learn through practice as they use medical equipment and mannequins to develop sound clinical skills before advancing to the clinical rotation. Experienced instructors will oversee students’ activities at a modern health center as they change dressings, administer medications, assist with personal grooming, monitor overall patient health, and measure vital signs. Students will also learn the importance of communication and providing a comforting presence for patients and their families.
