The School of Practical Nursing at Prince William Public County Schools prepares high school seniors and adults with the knowledge and skills to practice nursing under the supervision of a registered nurse. The duration of the program is 18 months and includes 9 months of preclinical instruction at Osbourn Park High School followed by 9 months of clinical experience in various healthcare facilities. Clinical sites include Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, Westminister at Lakeridge, and Birmingham Green. During the supervised clinical experience, students will be involved in direct patient care for 6 to 10 hours a day. Course topics include personal and vocational relationships, fundamentals of nursing, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, fundamentals, mental health, geriatrics, maternity and pediatrics, leadership, preceptorship, and community health. Graduates will be qualified to sit the NCLEX for Practical Nursing and for entry-level positions in a variety of health care settings where they will meet the diverse needs of patients.

Global Health College prepares practical nursing students for a rewarding career in health. The program comprises of 1,328 clock hours of theoretical and practical instruction. It is designed to be completed in 15 months based on a part-time schedule. Classes meet two and a half days a week from 9:00 am to 5:45 pm. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Practical Nursing Diploma and will be eligible to apply for the NCLEX for Practical Nurses. The program admits new students in January, May, and September. Practical nursing students enrolled at Standard Healthcare Services will gain the knowledge and competencies to care for culturally diverse patients in acute and long-term care settings.
