The emphasis of the Practical Nursing Diploma program at Standard Healthcare Services is to prepare adults with the tools to meet the needs of the diverse patient populations in various healthcare settings. The program delivers 1,350 hours of instruction: 950 hours of theory in the classroom and skills lab and 400 hours of supervised patient care experiences in acute and long-term care facilities. At the conclusion of the program, graduates will receive a Diploma in Practical Nursing and will be eligible to apply for the State Board exam to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. The foundational studies will also enable graduates to pursue further studies in nursing. Graduates of the Practical Nursing Program at Medical Learning Center will have the confidence to succeed on the NCLEX-PN. The course covers 1,400 contact hours, including classroom theory, skills lab, and supervised patient care experiences. Areas of study include medical surgical nursing, nursing concepts, pediatric nursing, anatomy and physiology, geriatric nursing, principles and practices in nursing, mental health nursing, maternal child nursing, and professional practice. Through the commitment of instructors, students will be prepared to assume entry-level positions in various health care settings. Day and evening schedules are available. The meeting times are generally Mondays through Thursdays. However, a weekend schedule is also available for those who would prefer to attend classes on Saturdays and Sundays.

Prince William County Public Schools

Both high school students and adults may apply admission to the Practical Nursing Program at Prince William Public County Schools to gain the skills to practice nursing under the direction of a registered nurse. The 18-month program requires 9 months of instruction in the classroom at Osbourn Park High School followed by 9 months of supervised patient care experiences in various healthcare facilities in the community. Students must arrange their own transport to the clinical sites, which includes Birmingham Green, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, and Westminister at Lakeridge. Students must commit 6 to 10 hours for clinical days – shifts vary. In the classroom, students will learn fundamentals of nursing, pharmacology, mental health, personal and vocational relationships, geriatric nursing, maternity and pediatric nursing, community health, leadership, preceptorship, and nutrition. Program graduates will receive a Practical Nursing Diploma and will be eligible to apply for the NCLEX-PN for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Through 1,344 hours of theoretical and practical instruction, Ultimate Health School prepares adults for entry-level practice in acute and long-term care facilities. Areas of study include mental health concepts, fundamentals of nursing, medical terminology, maternal nursing, medical surgical nursing, geriatrics, trends in nursing, and transition to practice. Flexible morning and evening schedules accommodate those who need to balance their educational goals with work and family commitments. Evening classes are from5:00 pm to 10:30 pm from Monday through Thursday. Day classes are from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. A weekend schedule is also available as needed.
