Lynwood Community Adult School
The vocational nursing course at Lynwood Community Adult School prepares qualified applicants for employment in hospitals and long-term care facilities. The course combines classroom, hands-on lab, and mandatory clinical training to emphasize key principles, including the nursing process, patient care procedures, medication administration, and infection control. Other course topics include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, growth and development, nursing in specialized settings (maternal/neonatal, geriatrics, and pediatrics), pharmacology, and restorative care. Students complete the mandatory clinical experience in a local health care facility. The 1532-hour, 13-month course meets all the accreditation requirements of the California Board of Vocational Nursing. The Vocational Nursing Program at California Career College prepares adults for their role as vocational nurses, specifically to meet the health care needs of the community. Pasadena City College
The Vocational Nursing program at Pasadena City College is open for admissions once a year. The 11-month program begins in the fall semester and continues in the spring and fall semesters. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements, which includes official high school transcript or GED certificate, official transcript of courses completed at US colleges or universities, TEAS transcript with a score of 62 or higher, and placement test score for English 1A. Admissions for the limited-enrollment program depends on several factors, including academic degrees or diplomas, GPA, life experiences, score on the assessment/readiness test, and completion of the support courses. Applicants must also complete the course prerequisites; active California CNA certification, nutrition 11, physiology, psychology, math pre-algebra, and English 1A. Upon acceptance to the program, students must complete a criminal background check and obtain health clearance before commencing the clinical experience at one of the school’s 25 health care partners. Preferred College of Nursing’s blended Vocational Nursing Program prepares students for success on the NCLEX-PN. Applicants must be at least 17 years and obtain a minimum score of 80% on the entrance exam.
