The Practical Nursing certificate program includes core nursing and general education courses to prepares students for success on the licensure exam and also provides a foundation for future study in nursing or another career in health. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Students will complete 27 credits of nursing courses and 16 credits of general education courses. Course topics include human biology, English I, introduction to nursing, introduction to psychology, medical surgical nursing, developmental psychology, principles of sociology, geriatric nursing, maternal nursing, and mental health nursing. In addition to classroom lectures, students will complete a clinical experience in the long-term care, in-patient, or out-patient facility under the guidance of a licensed nurse. Admission is selective and requires a high school diploma or GED, a minimum grade C in high school biology, one year of high school algebra, a completed physical exam, 2-step TB test, urine drug screen results, current health insurance, record of immunization, CPR certification, and criminal background clearance. Falcon Institute facilitates a practical nursing certificate program with the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing. Eastern Center for Arts and Technology
Eastern Center for Arts and Technology operates a Practical Nursing Program with the approval of the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. The program is accredited by the Middle States Commission of Secondary Schools. Through a blend of academics and practical instruction, students will be prepared to function as competent practical nurses. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX PN licensing exam to provide quality care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. They will be capable of providing patient-centered care, serving as a member of the interdisciplinary team, using research in practice, promoting quality improvement, keep up with changes in technology as it relates to practice, and counsel patients to promote health and wellness. The program’s duration is one year. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students will also meet from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm in a clinical setting to provide care under the direction of a licensed nurse. A part-time program is also available at the Willow Grove campus. The duration is two years. Classes meet two evenings a week from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Part-time students will also attend classes every other weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

The Practical Nursing Certificate program at Lehigh Carbon Community College is designed to be completed in 12 months. The curriculum covers 51 credit hours and qualifies graduates for entry-level employment in a variety of health care settings. The program has full status approval from the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Those who successfully complete the program will be eligible to take the NCLEX PN for licensure as a practical nurse. The one-year practical nursing program at Delaware County Technical School prepares students to pursue a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. The curriculum covers 1500 clock hours in the classroom and a clinical facility. The program conducts four levels of study each level progressing from the simple to the complex.
